About Small Tales Farm: Big Hearts, Small Footprints

Welcome to Small Tales Farm! Located in the heart of our community, we are more than just a farm—we are stewards of heritage breeds and lifelong companions. Our story began with a simple love for animals that punch above their weight class, leading us to curate a unique family of High-Production Dairy Goats, Dachshunds, and Maine Coon Cats.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide families and homesteaders with animals that excel in both form and function. We believe that whether an animal is destined for the milking stand or the living room sofa, it deserves a foundation of health, superior genetics, and intentional socialization.

What We Raise

  • The Dairy Herd: We specialize in Nigerian Dwarfs and Guernseys. We selected these breeds for their incredible milk and personalities; the Nigerian Dwarf for its unmatched butterfat content and curious, people-loving nature and the Guernsey for its rare heritage and creamy milk. Our goats are bred for high production without sacrificing the hardy, sweet natures that make them a joy to manage.
  • The Hounds: Our Dachshunds are the heartbeat of the farm. Known for their “big dog” personalities in small bodies, our pups are raised in-home to ensure they are confident, loyal, and ready to become the center of your world.
  • The Giants: Completing our farm family are our Maine Coon Cats. As the gentle giants of the feline world, our Maine Coons are bred for their magnificent size, tufted features, and dog-like devotion to their humans.

Our Promise to You

When you bring an animal home from Small Tales Farm, you are becoming part of our story. We take pride in our transparent breeding practices and the “small tales” of joy our animals bring to every home they enter. We don’t just sell animals; we share the results of our passion, hard work, and dedication to excellence.

Where this all began

The Dogs

My parents brought home our first dachshund when I was about 7-8 years old. Her name was Molly and she was a classic red. I loved that dog though, to my intense disappointment, she had chosen my mom as her human and wanted nothing to do with me. Eventually I won her over and she became a solid, loyal companion. She died just two weeks after my husband and I married.

In time, we decided to get a new companion and have had dachshunds in our home ever since. We started breeding in 2006 and have always held a health-first approach, focusing on solid form for strength and longevity.

The Goats

A long time ago, when our third child was a baby and wasn’t thriving on my milk, someone suggested that we try goat’s milk for her. We were blessed to live a few miles from Bill and Nancy Dieterle (Alpine and Saanen folk might remember them!) and Nancy took us in, literally, and not only provided milk for our children but mentored me and helped me to get started with our very first Saanens. Those sweet does were our first venture into goat-herding.

Over the years and through some life changes, we found ourselves without goats and in another county and I read an article about the Guernsey breed. I just knew I needed goats again and Guernseys were going to be my breed. I found a starter herd in Idaho in 2019 and had them transported here and the rest is history! Nigerian Dwarf goats joined the herd in 2025 and quickly stole our hearts with their sociability and their adorableness.

The Cats

The cats are the most recent addition to our farm family. I have always wanted a Maine Coon cat. Last year, I had the opportunity to bless a family with a dachshund puppy in exchange for a gorgeous, white Maine Coon who was deaf and needed a special home. We ALL fell in love. Blizzard thoroughly stole our hearts, and within a matter of months, I had taken a deep dive into cat breeding and genetics, and kittens were arriving at the farm to begin a new adventure!
